Orbis is owned by Suffolk County Council in recognition of the big opportunities posed for Suffolk by the growing offshore wind industry.
Suffolk County Council supports offshore wind and has ambitions for Suffolk become the greenest county in the UK.
It recognises the economic importance of this industry with many Suffolk jobs, especially in Lowestoft, already depending on it. Current estimates of the value of offshore wind and maintenance locally is £3bn to 2020, and the industry is seen as sustainable for 60 years.
By 2030, offshore wind could secure 2,300 direct operations and maintenance jobs, and 1,500 supply chain jobs.

East Suffolk Council
East Suffolk Council is a supporter of the renewables sector recognising the importance of wind energy to the future of its local economy with the employment opportunities and potential of having two of the world’s biggest potential wind farm developments on its doorstep.
As well Lowestoft being the home to the operations and maintenance base for the 140 turbine Greater Gabbard windfarm, it is also home to the East Anglia One operations and maintenance base East Anglia ONE – ScottishPower Renewables . The port, operated by Associated British Ports | Lowestoft (abports.co.uk) supports a fleet of crew transfer vessels (CTV) and offshore wind work boats which service a range of Southern North Sea wind farms.
All of these developments have further emphasised the East of England’s role, and in particular Lowestoft, at the forefront of the offshore renewable energy industry.
