National Grid ESO is to run the Allocation Round 6 (AR6) contracts for difference auction after the close of the bidding window.
The allocation process will be followed by an independent audit.
Subject to the outcome of the independent audit, National Grid ESO intends to notify qualifying applicants of the results of the auction on 3-4 September 2024.
Once it has done so, the results will be made publicly available.
More than 10GW offshore wind capacity is eligible to enter the race in Pot 3, which received a £300m top-up from the incoming Labour government to increase the size of the total purse to £1.1bn.
Onshore wind will compete in Pot 1 alongside solar. The total budget for this pot is £185m.
Around 2GW-3GW is expected to come through the auction across both these technologies.
