Navantia Produces First East Anglia Three Monopile

Navantia Seanergies has manufactured the first monopile foundation for Iberdrola’s UK offshore wind project East Anglia Three at Navantia-Windar’s monopile factory in Fene shipyard, in A Coruña, Spain.

The Navantia-Windar consortium will deliver 45 monopiles for the 1.4 GW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm under a contract with ScottishPower Renewables, Iberdrola’s UK arm, signed at the beginning of 2023. Spanish tower and foundation manufacturer Haizea Wind Group will produce 50 monopiles for the 95-turbine offshore wind farm under a separate contract.

In May 2023, Windar Renovables signed a contract to deliver the project’s 95 transition pieces (TPs). The production of the TPs is carried out mainly at the company’s facilities in Avilés.

The monopiles Navantia is now rolling out for East Anglia Three have a diameter of up to 10.6 metres, a length of up to 85 metres and a weight of up to 1,800 tonnes.

Iberdrola was awarded a Contract for Difference for the 1.4 GW offshore wind farm in July 2022.

East Anglia Three, located 69 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk in England, will comprise 95 Siemens Gamesa 14+ MW wind turbines and is expected to start delivering electricity in 2026.

The project is part of Iberdrola’s GBP 6.5 billion (around EUR 7.7 billion) East Anglia Hub which includes two other offshore wind farms: the 800 MW East Anglia One North and the 900 MW East Anglia Two.
